Snow White Tea Set

This is another of my recent ceramic projects, I finished last week. I painted a Snow White inspired tea set. She is after all my favorite princess and childhood memory. I had a lot of fun coming up with how I was going to paint this set. I knew I wanted it to resemble her, but subtly.

To start with I painted the saucer in two shades of yellow. A darker yellow inside, and a “ruffle” of a lighter shade of yellow around the rim. The cup is dark blue on the outside. On the inside I painted light blue with a dark pink rim, and reddish rain drop shapes reminiscent of the sleeves on her dress. I even put a tiny little red bow on the handle of the cup, like the one she wears in her hair. I also painted a little “tea baggie” holder as a bright red apple. I am very pleased with how it all turned out. It is my perfect princess tea set.

Kitchen Ceramics

Near my house there is a place called Paint the Town. They have a ton of different not-painted ceramics, that you can go in and paint. In the price they provide, the piece, the paint, the glaze and the firing. It’s not a shabby deal, and the kids love going. At first I would paint just random bits and pieces, as well as gifts for upcoming birthdays and such. I just recently figured out, I could be making my own personalized Disney ceramics.

I started with a cupcake spoon rest. Cupcakes are such a big thing lately. And I really wanted a spoon rest. So I painted a cupcake with a Mickey Mouse theme. I love how it turned out. I used it everyday.

Next to stick with the cupcake theme, I painted a cupcake shaped box. It became my salt pot. I didn’t want it to look exactly like the spoon rest. What fun is there in that?  I have much fun designing and coming up with how it would look. I am so pleased with my results.

I plan on making a few other pieces, to go with the colors. My kitchen isn’t Disney themed. I actually have a french country thing going on. But the colors are red and yellow, so Mickey fits in perfect.
